Raking up grass into rows for the silage harvest is a skilled job but one Northern Ireland dairy farmer raised the bar when he paid his own tribute to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Finding going around the field in circles a bit tedious, David Dunlop decided to row up the number 70 in the grass on the farm just outside Royal Hillsborough village.

Although his creative flair was taken in good spirits by most of the silage crew, the harvester operator had a few choice words to say about his teammate.

David Dunlop, the brains behind the artwork, said: “It was just another regular evening rowing up the grass in preparation for the forage harvester to come and lift it. I had been going round and round the field for some time when I decided to liven the process up a bit and create my very own tribute to the Queen whose reign has stretched for a remarkable 70 years.”

He continued: “With that in mind, I rowed up the number 70 with the grass in recognition of her tremendous achievement. I was feeling quite proud of myself until the harvester driver tried to pick it up. As you can imagine, he had a few choice words to say about my efforts but we got it lifted in the end without any drama.”

He added that it “could have been worse”: “I could have rowed up the word Jubilee instead!” he said.
