Having fans in the barn not only allows the cows to cool down in hotter weather but is also can aid in reducing the risk of mastitis.
Rob van Heesch had Topcool fans installed at his dairy farm in Schijndel two years ago. Vet and veterinary coach Mark van Kleef (Klevet Cow Practice) explains that good ventilation ensures that the cow can lose her heat and that she lies down in the cubicle so that there is no pressure on her claws. ‘It is important for animal welfare that fans properly dry the cubicle, which reduces the risk of mastitis.’
