Dairy farmers are exiting the industry at a pace of approximately 1 per week in Great Britain, according to an AHDB survey.
The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) announced these results following a survey it conducted.
AHDB’s survey looked at milk buyers, which suggested that there are to date 8,820 dairy producers in Great Britain. When comparing this number with the number of producers in February this year, a decrease of 30-35 (0.4%) was shown.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is also used to keep up to date on the dairy producer numbers, however since last year the agency has been going through a data cleaning process, which has led to less clarity on the actual number of producers.
AHDB now conducts in own survey to gather its own data on the number of producers.
